
Keeping Your Waterproof Rinse-Drying Lamps Safe (And Working)
Let’s be honest: putting high-voltage lamps in a room full of steam and water droplets is a recipe for a headache. When you’re running a rinse line, the humidity is constant. One tiny leak or a weak seal, and you’re looking at a short circuit or a leakage current that shuts everything down. It’s a high-stakes environment. That’s why the seal on the lamp is everything.
We test every single tube. No exceptions.
Some companies just grab a few samples from a batch and call it a day. We don’t do that. Every single tube goes through a full voltage withstand (hi-pot) and insulation resistance test before it even thinks about leaving our warehouse. We push the insulation to the limit. Why? Because if there’s even a microscopic gap between the quartz envelope and the electrodes, moisture gets in. Once that happens, the tungsten filament oxidizes, and your lamp burns out way before it should. Worse yet, it could arc to the chassis of your machine. We’d rather find that flaw in our lab than have you find it on your factory floor.
The trade-off: Heat vs. Moisture
Here is the thing about waterproof IR lamps: they need special sealing and protective coatings to survive the wet zones. These coatings are great for reliability, but they do change the emission spectrum a bit compared to a standard clear-quartz lamp. It’s a small shift, but it’s there. Just keep that in mind when you’re tuning your conveyor speed and temperature settings. You’re trading a tiny bit of light precision for the peace of mind that your lamps won’t fry the moment they hit the steam.
Getting the wiring right
Once the lamps arrive, the ball is in your court. Make sure your grounding is rock solid. Our lamps are built to take a beating in wet areas, but they can’t fix a bad electrical setup. IR lamps have a high wattage density, so double-check that your control cabinet is actually spec’d for the current draw. A cheap connector or a frayed wire will kill the safety benefits of the lamp itself. As long as your infrastructure is up to the task, these tubes will do the heavy lifting for you.
